Personal Statement

I believe passionately that everyone deserves and has the potential to grow and develop. I understand just how difficult it can be to overcome the effects of painful life experiences and psychological distress. I know this because my work involves helping people recover and steadily become a happier more accepting individual.

Through my personal and professional experience I have come to realise that we are ever growing and adapting to our surroundings, good or bad and that sometimes we can find this process difficult. If we are not taught healthily how to deal with our problems effectively then they can often take over our lives in the form of psychological distress. I aim to facilitate a healthy growth process by giving individuals the tools and strategies they need to be successful in all aspects of their lives.

I work collaboratively with my clients to maximise the effectiveness of therapy. My approach to therapy is to assess each client on an individual basis and tailor their needs and goals accordingly. I am qualified to work with a children, adolescent and adult clientele.

Across my career I have taken on several different roles all of which have been imbedded in psychology. I have been a university lecturer in psychology and taught in colleges and schools. In addition to this I have taught teachers in psychotherapeutic intervention skills. I have been a researcher and have published in various psychological journals and developed a multi-sensory communication tool for children with disabilities. I have designed, built and implemented Psychotherapy clinics in to schools. I have treated clients from all age groups. I also work for charitable organisations too administering Psychotherapy. I have worked in mental health, research and education for the last 14 years.
