How do I know I need counselling/Psychotherapy?
There may be many reasons why you wish to embark on a series of counselling/ therapy sessions: to gain clarity on an issue, change old patterns, and untangle complex personal issues or for self-development. People may also seek counselling as a result of a crisis, or may be encouraged to seek counselling/ therapy by family members, friends or colleagues.
What usually happens within a therapy sessions?
All sessions differ. It is a time for you to talk, what you choose to talk about will vary according to your needs. You are free to discuss what you wish, from everyday events, dilemmas, feelings, thoughts, regrets, aspirations, memories and dreams. All sessions will be conducted in a safe environment in which to explore your issues and work towards your self-improvement. If you prefer to approach your issues in a more practical way, then cognitive behavioural therapy may be a good choice.
Do I have to talk about painful or embarrassing experiences?
Yes, when you are ready. The pace in which your therapy is conducted can be dictated by you, only tell me things when you want to. If it something that you have not told anyone else people often report feeling a sense of relief once they have begun to tell someone else. And, it is fine to take as long as you need.
What if I don't know exactly what I want?
Many people come to counselling without a clear idea of what they want and that is fine too. It is quite normal to need to take time to explore why you are here and what you want from the process
